| what an interesting programme - and it didn't dumb it down or patronise, just easy to understand facts - thanks for the heads up Wonderwoman Starbuck - who is Kate Silverton? is she someone from football? Argh Stella - nothing worse than someone blethering away when you are trying to watch something. there are some programmes where it is a cardinal sin to speak - like Supernatural - I love my sky+ I was actually thinking of having soup as a mainstay of my healthy eating as its an easy way of 5 a day and good for fluid intake as well - so it's great that its got the advantage of making you feeling full for longer. The bit about dairy products binding fat as well was very interesting too. | |

| Sorry I presumed Kate Silverton was the presenter as she did the last one 10 things about sleep. She presents breakfast news on the bbc. | |

| Soup is main lunchtime meal in the week - easy to take to work. Make a huge one on a Sunday then put it into containers. I usually freeze a couple but lodger has filled freezer with crap (as well as the fridge) | |

| Thanks Starbuck - i am hopeless with names.
Stella, it must be so frustrating sharing with a lodger, it would drive me demented having to share a fridge and freezer - family makes it a bit more easier to cope with.

| It was a case of needs must! When she first moved in she hardly ever bought food (just nicked mine!!) Since she's been with new girlfriend fridge is always full. What I dont understand is, the oven and grill broke last week yet she's been out and bought loads of stuff that needs to be cooked in the oven and filled the freezer up therefore no room for my soups | |

| really interesting programme, im going to see it again on iplayer as i want to write down those ten tips for future use, really useful! i had porridge this morning with fresh berries, yum and a dollop of natural probiotic yoghurt on top, lovely still full!! i love porridge and it does keep me full for ages which is great, especially on work days, i'm going to have it more often making spicy tomato and lentil soup tonight!! i think the soup phenomenon could really catch on!

| spicy lentil and tomato soup; got it out of a low GI recipe book
INGREDIENTS
250G [8oz] red lentils [i used the dried red split lentils] 1 tablespoon vegetable oil [i used olive oil but then thats the main one i use, sure its fine] 1 large onion, finely chopped 1 garlic clove, finely chopped 1 celery stick, finely chopped 200g [7oz or small can] chopped tomatoes, drained half a small green chili, chopped and deseeded, if liked half teaspoon paprika half teaspoon harissa paste half teaspoon ground cumin 600 ml vegetable stock or water salt and pepper 1 tablespoon fresh chopped coriander to garnish
METHOD
1. Place the lentils in a bowl of water heat the oil in a pan, fry the onion, garlic and celery until soft 2. drain the lentils, rinse well and add to pan along with tinned tomatoes, mix well and then add the rest of the ingredients. 3. simmer for 30-40 minutes until lentils soft 4. serve with the coriander garnish*
* i didnt have any coriander last time so i just sprinkled on some dried chilli flakes but then i love hot and spicy foods!! it was lovely though
i'm having mine with crusty granary bread
enjoy! | |

| i'm not sure why they put the lentils in water as i read somewhere that red lentils dont need soaking, and in this recipe its not for long but i just did it as i followed the recipe, i've used red lentils loads of times in other soups and i just usually rinse them and chuck them in! | |

| Perhaps they just want you to rinse the lentils and have not explained it well. Lentils don't need soaking; but they do need to be rinsed because of the dust. You should check for any debris too. Sometimes, you can find a small stone or two in there.
Oh, I did watch that show last night. It was good. I feel like I am already doing most of that; but it was nice to have it reiterated and to understand why. I'm going to try to eat more soups now.
