PostSubject: Re: Non scale victory   Non scale victory - Page 2 I_icon_minitimeWed Jun 10, 2009 2:49 am

Stunned myself this morning, whilst in my cupboard a load of clothes fell out on the floor (im not very tidy and just shove everything in!) when I was picking everything up I decided to try on one of my old skirts.

It was my old fave skirt when I lost weight before from Monsoon (so a normal shop not evans one.) Can't believe it actually fitted me, got the zip done and buttoned up and everything!!!!!

I still wouldn't wear it out yet becuase even though it fits round the waist, my flabby stomach
stuck out in it still just can't believe it actually fitted.

as you can tell i'm ecstatic and still totally stunned!!!!!

Just wondering though if size charts are actually correct for anyone.

Was looking at the Evans size charts and it says that before I started losing weight I should have been wearing a size 30, when I was a 22 from Evans. And Monsoon say's I should have a 31inch waist to fit in this skirt when i've got a 42inch, so just wondering is it just me?

No it's not you SB. In Next I fit into a 10 with room to spare (I think I'm a size 9 lol) yet in Matalan I struggle to zip up a ten. I am going to measure myself tonight and have alook at Evans size chart - is it online?

Nope not just you SB - I find asda very erratic too -some 22's I buy are hanging off me and others are snug. jeans from evans are a size 24, but my tracky bottoms for the gym are a size 20 (as is my underwear)- sizes are all over the place for most shops. I personally think that Evans have a vested interest in making you think you need a really huge size to maintain market loyalty.

Shop sizes are totally erratic! I agree with everyone else the size I would measure at is not the size I always buy as it depends on the shop and even within the shop it can differ depending on the fabric or cut of the item. Most things don't fit correctly on part of my body for example, if jeans fit on the waist they are too big on the bum and hips or if a top fits my bust then the arms or shoulders are too baggy! I can wear anything from a 16 to a 20, but this is from George, Tesco, M&S, Peacocks, Monsoon. I would imagine if it was New Look or other 'trendier', 'younger' places I would probably be a 20-22. My Reebok sportswear is an encouraging size 14...all hail Lycra!!!!!!, but their size 18/20 (non-lycra just that lightweight material) running t-shirts don't fit!!

Kids stuff doesn't fit well either (not on me obviously!!!!), either that or my kids must be skinny, short legged, bottomless, creatures with long torsos!! Trousers are always several inches too long and too baggy on the waist as they fall down unless they are adjustable waist (which then means the uncomfortable buttons to adjust it digs in their sides), t-shirts are too short in the body length, and I am always having to buy 1 or 2 sizes bigger/smaller and sew or hem things.

....and false drawstrings on clothes drives me bonkers...what is the point in them??!!!

To summarise....shop clothes sizes are totally stupid!!!

Ok rant over...I've hijacked the non-scale victory thread now!!!........goes off to sulk and hang head in shame Laughing

I just don't see the point in these size charts, I don't see that they relate to anyone in anyway. Didn't think about the kids clothes too, but your right my oldest son is 3 1/2 but tall for his age with no waist so finding anything to fit him is atrocious.

I've never really looked at size charts before just bought what fitted, was just curious with my new measurments what they would say, shouldn't have bothered really.

Lol at 4angels rant - off to the corner with you, or the naughty step. No seriously, I dont think it matters what size you are clothes wise you will be a different size in a variety of shops. You may hear me banging on about Next - I dont work for them it's just I'm a smaller size in there which subconciously I think is why I shop there lol. Very Happy

I'm having a good day. I bought a second dress in a size 14 today (was previously 16). Still can't wear 14 trousers but its a start! Plus, my BMI is now officially out of the 'obese' category, so now i'm just plain old overweight!

Thats a great victory Wonderwoman -I think the 2nd item in a smaller size means more as it's not a "fluke" or just a lucky size - it kind of confirms that you have officilly made it Smile - great news.

Well done Wonderwoman! Size 14 is great, I'd also like to be out of the obese and into the overweight category, I've got about 7lbs to go before that though.

I'm off the naughty step regarding clothes rant now Laughing t'is all true though!!!!
