| Well I'm fine today apart from I've left my lunch in the fridge so I really don't know what I can have. I work miles away from any shops and the only options open to me are the burger van or a sandwich from the machine. Am not happy. | |

| Hi, i'm Lou from Southampton. I'm 5'10"... I think I currently weigh around 13 stone Been on and off diets for tooooo long so this time I am determined to lose it, and keep it off. At my lightest I was 10 stone 7 pounds, that was Summer 2007. That's just sunk in how long ago that was... oh dear. I'd better get my lazy ar*e on the wii fit tonight. I can exercise & have a weigh in at the same time. It's better to know the damage I guess | |

| I'm 38 and live in Solihull. I've been trying my hand at healthy eating for over a year. I started out at 19 stone and 11 pounds. Today, I weigh in at 16 stones 11 pounds. I guess you could say I have been losing it very slowly. I have a slow metabolism; but my Endocrinologist doubled my thyroxin last week, so I am hoping that will help speed up the process. I've been counting calories and doing 5-7 hours a week on the treadmill. I also do some Wii Fit and fitness ball workouts too. I try to keep my calorie count around 1200-1400. I log everything that passes my lips on www.sparkpeople.com. I used to use foodfocus; but it has "exceeded it's bandwidth" too many times for me to count on it. Plus, Spark People has a huge community with forums, teams, recipes, etc. Even though it's been way over a year and I haven't lost as much as I would have liked, I am not giving up. I honestly feel like this time I have changed my lifestyle and that I will eventually get to where I want to be. I look forward to getting to know everyone here. We CAN do it! Yes, we can! | |

| Hi Delilah! Your profile pic made me giggle The people who claim to be experts do think that losing slowly is the best way to keep it off - so dont be disheartened. If your thyroid is also underactive that of course wont help - but the amount of exercise you are doing seems more than reasonable. I do wonder if your calorie intake is actually a little low - although its far from dangerous - because you are doing all that extra exercise that might also be slowing your metabolism because you might not be taking in enough to cover all the extra exertion and thus your body is thinking that you are starving yourself and slowing your metabolism down as well. See how you go with the new dose of thyroxin, and if that speeds things up well, then maybe consider aiming for 1500 cals a day - that extra 100 might tip the balance in your favour for an increase in the speed. And of course we can do it We wouldnt be here if we werent determined !! | |

I also thought my calories might be low and was the cause of my plateau, so I upped my intake a few months ago and started eating 1500-1700 calories. I neither lost nor gained weight (except for the few pounds of water weight that seems to yo-yo). Last week, I started going to a Specialist Weight Management Clinic (on the NHS) and am now seeing an Endocrinologist and Dietitian. They both say I should be eating around 1200 calories and should exercise 7 days a week. So... back to the drawing board. I have to admit, I am finding it hard to stick to 1200 calories this time.

| Im wanting to lose about 1-2 stone. I was in Germany for a while and just totally pigged out whilst I was there. At the moment im currently going through a really tough time and food just seems to be making me feel a bit better. Of course in the long run its not gonna help I wish I had a bit more self esteem and confidence! How are you feeling today Flax? | |

| Hi everyone, i'm kate, 40 yrs old [kate36 is my nic on ds so i thought i would keep it for here!] and it's easier to remember! I am of the belief that we are what we eat [to quote a certain nutritional personality!] and i also firmly believe that a healthy diet and regular exercise DOES work; it did for me! i was 12 stone and getting bigger until i changed my diet and ditched the cigs and started exercising. I'm only 5 foot 4 so i was rather chunky! I've now almost reached my target BMI/weight and have kept the weight off, which is fab. I still love my food too! i'd like to join this forum to share tips, experiences and generally meet some new online mates to have a good banter with; though i dont get on line that often!

i would say about six months for the main excess weight to come off but i've been going to the gym for about 2 years now and that's kept it off. I did battle with ditching the cigs but they went for good last august and i've never had one since and my fitness has improved heaps since then and I'm so glad i quit the filthy habit, i couldn't do what i do now if i still smoked! my goal was simply to be healthy, ditch the junk, the cigs and get a fitter healthier body and mindset; i've suffered from anxiety and stress in the past - who hasn't? and the only remedy i know of is a good gym session! honestly it does work! i feel heaps better afterwards and it allows me to eat more or less what i like! [only i don't eat rubbish anymore!] ps yes i love the avatar!!

| I missed this thread yesterday, I just started posting in all the other threads! thanks for setting up the forum flaxseed. I'm 39 and live in London, and tend to be a bit of a comfort eater and am very lazy about exercise. I don't have much weight to lose - I've lost 8 pounds in the last couple of months, and am aiming to lose 2 more by early June, then maybe another 2 by early July (though I'm more likely to put some back on as I'll be going on holiday in June). I want to tone up a bit as well, and am enjoying walking/jogging. I've never dared to go jogging before this year - I really thought I would get mocked in the street by gangs of teenagers! No-one takes a blind bit of notice though, and it's nice not to have to pay for a gym, and also get some fresh air. I'm 5ft 2, I was 9stones, am now 8st 6, and aiming for 8st 2. | |

| hey Truffle Cart - the jogging sounds good, it's easy to let the thought of running past spotty youths on street corners is a bit daunting. I am hopeless at jogging or running - give me endurance any day rather than speed. | |
